The State of Alaska has established a special office to assist crime victims: Alaska Office of Victims' Rights. The purpose of the office is to help victims of crime obtain the legal rights they have under Article 1, Section 24 of Alaska's Constitution and various Alaska state statutes with regard to their contacts with criminal justice agencies in this state. A victim of crime has the right to be informed about the Alaska Office of Victims' Rights during their first contact with law enforcement and the prosecution [AS 12.61.010(a)(15)]. The Alaska Office of Victims' Rights is staffed by attorneys and available at no cost to victims.

Victims for Justice is the only Crime Victim Service Agency in Alaska dedicated to serving victims of all violent crime. Through our free services, we offer advocacy, care and support for all victims and their family members in the Criminal Justice System. They Also provides crime victim advocacy services to survivors of violent crimes, including the surviving family members of homicide, throughout South Central Alaska. We offer crisis intervention, assistance with Compensation Applications and Victim Impact Statements, court accompaniment, and many other services to assist victims as they deal with the grief and trauma violent crime can often instill. Victims for Justice is a local nonprofit that provides vital assistance for victims of violent crimes. By championing victims' rights, we help those effected heal from trauma and grief while advocating change in the criminal justice system.

The Violent Crimes Compensation Board was established to help mitigate financial losses that are the direct result of violent crimes that occur to Alaskans and visitors to Alaska. In addition, the Board helps to foster victim advocacy and services and promotes victim recovery. They provides free legal services for crime victims; committed to protecting the statutory and constitutional rights of victims guaranteed under Alaska law.
